Inhale Exhale (2019), exhibited at Project Space Gallery, LASALLE College of the Arts on September 17, captures Sarah Lin Fang Yi’s reflections on movement and stillness, inspired by her Winston Oh Travelogue in Ho Chi Minh City. Funded by Dr. Winston Oh’s stipend for Southeast Asian exploration, Lin wandered Vietnam’s bustling streets, immersing herself in everyday life.
Befriending a security guard’s family and training at Evo Strength gym, she embraced the rhythm of local communities, finding solace in aimless walking. The installation features a striped tarp backdrop with symbolic objects: a tiger figurine, a duck, a small plant, and neon signs reading “INHALE” and “EXHALE.”
These elements evoke a meditative pause, inviting viewers to reflect on breath and presence amidst urban chaos.
