Rudios 𝒙 𝒔 𝒔 | 8th November | Duration: 20 minutes
Set in a historic shophouse under renovation, this collaborative performance by Rudi Osman and xss reflects on the unrecognised endurance of past generations of women.
Clad in oversized white office shirts to symbolise labor, the performers circle anti-clockwise, symbolically turning back of time.
Shouldering heavy tarpaulin sacks filled with concrete powder, they observe one another’s struggle, embodying the solitary weight of personal burdens. As the concrete sack falls to the ground, the other picks it up. Responding to the notion that whilst we cannot carry each other’s struggles, we can witness them and through and act of surrendering our struggles, we allow the other to pick it up, transform it and render it less significant.
Rudi Osman’s haunting, industrial soundscape, crafted through electric guitar and distorted by expert pedal work, fills the shophouse, pulsating off its walls. His ethereal drones amplify the performance’s raw, somber atmosphere, resonating with the echo of unspoken histories.
𝑑𝑖𝑔 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡ℎ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑠𝑒𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟 is a homage to the tenacity of the women that preceded them — establishing new paradigms and breaking new ground for the women that would come after.
