Vessel, Gestation, Womb (2022) is a performance by Sarah Lin Fang Yi that delves into the themes of exhaustion, ritual-making, and birth—both literal and metaphorical. Performed on April 21, 2022, from 7pm to midnight at DECK, 120A Prinsep Street, Singapore, Lin invited the public to join her in a meditative journey from twilight to midnight.
Dressed in a wedding dress, she carried a 3.78kg bouquet of lilies—her birth weight—symbolizing the weight of life’s beginnings. Referencing Pilgrimage: Milk, Lin circled a Stupa, meditating on notions of containing, excavating, brooding, flourishing, and the cycles of life and death.
The five-hour duration became a space for introspection, where the artist and audience shared a collective ritual of reflection.
Symbolic elements, like the lilies and wedding dress, underscores her interdisciplinary approach to exploring femininity and existence through performance.
