A former area of settlement for immigrants by the waterfront, the history of Telok Ayer is closely interconnected with the notions of arrival and identity.
Telok Ayer is a melting pot of cultures, which stems from the cultural adaptations and transitions that the immigrants had to make when they first settled in the region. “Rediscover: Telok Ayer” aims to provide the public with a variety of avenues to engage with and immerse themselves in the community memories of Telok Ayer that have been uncovered. Drawing on the imagery of the former coastline and echoes of immigrant narratives, we seek to capture the imagination of the public, not only as audience but as a willing participant, contributing their experiences and histories to the project as well.
