seggs (2023) is a collaborative installation by xss, a 3 metre bamboo chandelier modeled after the female reproductive system, suspended in a dark, four-storey mechanical carpark in Singapore. Designed to feel viscous and sagging, like a giant sticky droplet clinging to its core, the structure embodies the weight and fluidity of femininity.
When viewers look down, they confront the vast space between the chandelier’s tip and the unseen vanishing point below, a visual metaphor for the depths of womanhood. A single light drops through the chandelier’s center into the chasm, illuminating the overwhelming challenges women face—symbolizing the unfathomable abundance they are born with, yet the fragility of conception and life’s beginnings outside the body.
The bamboo material, organic and resilient, reflects the duality of strength and vulnerability in the female experience. Installed in an industrial carpark, the work juxtaposes the natural form against a stark urban setting, inviting viewers to reflect on the societal constructs surrounding reproduction
seggs is honored to be part of ARTSG and Singapore Art Week 2025
